Many members of our community find themselves growing older and falling into ill-health or being isolated. For a number of reasons, they often don’t avail of the support that could be available to them.

Here at LIHH we have set up support services to ensure that people get support, advice and information to help them overcome difficulties they face, whether that is through us providing the service directly or linking people into the services we know exist to give them support.

We have tried to be creative in the responses we can offer people. In addition to the support offered by our trained and professional outreach workers, we develop and faciliatate group activities and services which Irish people have told us help them to make a difference to their health and well-being, develop new friendships and re-establish old ones or just give them the reason to get out of bed on a morning.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT OUR OUTREACH WORK

"Fantastic atmosphere at the day club. I love to attend it, it makes my day".

"At 85 young this is the best day club I’ve ever been to".

St Patrick’s Day Celebration attendee “I really enjoyed yesterday. I really felt I belonged. I don’t often feel that way”

"Mum joins your luncheon club on a Friday and is always singing the praises of the staff."

"I really enjoy the walking group; the countryside we visit takes me back to my childhood in Ireland when I was a lot freer and not bogged down by everything that I feel today. It’s a release".

"The women’s group has offered me the chance to meet other Irish women who I can talk to, have a laugh or cry with and not feel stupid".

"Just getting away from things for a while with the Leeds Irish Health & Homes Carer’s group makes all the difference".
